War in Heaven
And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war
with the dragon. And the dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not
strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven.
And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called
the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to
the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a
loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now the salvation, and the power, and the
kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the
accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, who accuses them before
our God day and night. And they overcame him because of the blood
of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they
did not love their life even to death. Rev 12:7-11 NASB
Even though this is introduced as a "war in heaven" that is fought between
angels and demons, it concludes as a victory by the saints in the world, who
themselves overcome the devil "because of the blood of the Lamb...the word of
their testimony, and they did not love their life even to death." It would
seem the Lord would have us consider the matter from both angles, the spiritual
root and the earthly conclusion.
While the concept of earthly war is fairly easy to grasp, "war in heaven" is
an altogether different matter. It might be said to be the highest order
of competition in the marketplace of ideas, very similar to earthly marketing
campaigns promoting everything from vacation resorts to politicians. The
perfect political campaign, for instance, would be one that persuades everyone
that one candidate is a virtuous champion of truth, justice, and the American
way, while all others are perceived as morally bankrupt, untrustworthy, and
concealing insidious agendas. In this information age, we are inundated
with just such appeals seeking to plant beliefs as deeply as their audience will
allow. It is the art of propaganda, and its aim is not just to gain sales
or votes; it is to make you believe their offerings are better
than competing options. If they can accomplish that, they have done more
than just get a sale or vote, they've gotten a devotee.
War in heaven is very much the same as this, except that the competing
"products" are all the ideas floating around under the banner of Christ; it is a
campaign between two candidates and their followers -- Satan and Yahshua.
Dating all the way back to the Garden of Eden, It is not a new war at all, but
the final chapter of it will be a full scale campaign by both sides that, in
Yahweh's words, will shake both heaven and earth in ways never before seen
The only thing that can be stated with absolute certainty is that the
true answer to each issue will eliminate somewhere between all and all but one
of the competing ideas, but until that is established, there will be controversy
and competition in the kingdom of heaven. The kingdom of heaven is
represented in the world by the saints, whose hearts and minds are the realm in
which war in heaven is conducted. Each sector of Christianity is competing
with the world and mostly each other for a collection of the biggest and most
pieces of other people's souls. At this point, it may not be war, but
there is certainly a lot of competitive posturing and skirmishes towards that
end going on. Full-scale war is on the horizon, and that is how the Lord
is going to segregate or sanctify His true servant-brethren from all the
hypocrites like a man would sort sheep from goats.
When the truth is manifested by the two empowered prophets (Revelation 11),
the battle lines will be drawn, and there will be no neutral territory for
people to find refuge. In the hidden realm of the spirit, Michael and his
angels will stand up against Satan and his, but if one listens carefully, the
voices of angels and demons aren't hard to hear, even now. They may not
actually show a face or speak out loud themselves, but their influence in the
minds of their charges is openly displayed everywhere. Our beliefs -- the
things we accept as true -- are continually solicited with ever increasing
seduction and coercion, and those are the voices of angels and demons. In
the heavenly realm, what we believe -- really believe, that is -- is given much
more currency than most in the world do, a fact that will no doubt come more in
view as the sun sets on this age.
There's so many historical examples of how heavenly war plays out in the
world. The timeline of events from the preaching of John to the day of
Pentecost might be considered a war story, for instance. John started
making an impact on the beliefs of the Jews, and the children of the devil
sitting in "Moses' seat" over them rose up against him. The confrontation
was the beginning of the war that escalated even more when the baton was passed
to Yahshua, who, unlike John, did miracles. For a time, Yahshua was
gaining ground in this war, but was ultimately forsaken by nearly everyone and
left to stand on his own against paid false witnesses in a kangaroo court.
Of course, because of the resurrection, He wasn't done yet, and the next
offensive, the outpouring of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost, proved to be a
decisive victory, though the war was far from over.
The upper hand quickly went back to the devil as his servants infiltrated and
corrupted the ranks of the church, ultimately raising his flag on the church
with the unholy matrimony that spawned the "Holy Roman Empire", where it has
remained ever since, though there has also always remained a number of
resistance movements, as well. This is not the end of it, though, as there
is a time where Michael and his angels stand up with the children of God against
their adversaries. This is much like the return of Moses to Egypt and
correlates directly with the anointment of the two witness-prophets in the last
days, a complete disruption of the status quo. Pharaoh didn't think anyone
could trump his power...until Moses came along, and the same could be said of
the Pharisees and scribes before Yahshua and His profound wisdom and
miracle-working power showed up. When the two witnesses put on a
barbecue of their enemies in full view of the world, there will be war...and the
devil will be defeated, at least insofar as in the hearts and minds of the true
children of the kingdom, and that is the point in which he is expelled from the
realm of heaven.
Another description of what seems to be the same event can be found in the
third chapter of Zechariah, where a more intimate view of the earlier phase of
this war is revealed. In my estimation, the picture is of the two
witnesses, who are described in Revelation 11 in a way strongly representing the
role of the high priest, a role held by Joshua at the time:
Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of
the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. And the
LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, the LORD who has
chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?"
Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel.
And he spoke and said to those who were standing before him saying, "Remove
the filthy garments from him." Again he said to him, "See, I have taken your
iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes." Then I
said, "Let them put a clean turban on his head." So they put a clean turban on
his head and clothed him with garments, while the angel of the LORD was
standing by.
And the angel of the LORD admonished Joshua saying, "Thus says the LORD
of hosts, 'If you will walk in My ways, and if you will perform My service,
then you will also govern My house and also have charge of My courts, and I
will grant you free access among these who are standing here." Zechariah
3:1-7 NASB
The prelude to this is practically identical to what John wrote in Revelation
12 about the devil, who works through his human agents in the world. For a
time, he is able to continually accuse the saints in God's sight, but when he is
cast down, this power is lost. He will be as the impotent Pharisees in
contrast to Yahshua's mighty miracle-working power and the mighty Pharaoh in the
face of the fugitive-slave Moses. When Michael stands up against the
devil, there will be no real contest. In the world, when the two witnesses
manifest the precise miraculous power detailed by the Apostle John 2,000 years
ago, that will both defeat their accusers, it will also cloth them in white,
above reproach at least in the eyes of those that matter; they will overcome the
devil by the "blood of the Lamb," as John wrote, which cleanses all sin and
renders its effects null. Their sudden prominence also will serve like an
amplifier to their testimony, which is another of the three-pronged defense they
have against the devil and his agents; the other is the depth of their
commitment, which is essentially a 'til death do we part' betrothal to Christ.
As with the case of Yahshua, the two witness-prophets will make a huge impact
for a time, but will ultimately find themselves virtually alone under the
prosecution of the antichrist. In light of the unprecedented horror of the
predicted slaughter of the saints, I've come to think these two will probably
surrender for the sake of stopping the extermination of their brethren,
effectively giving their lives for the remaining 144,000 saints. Yet, like
a master chess player, their sacrifice only appears for a moment as a loss.
Three and a half days later, the remaining saints in the world will, as the
apostles before them, witness the resurrection with their own eyes when these
two rise just like Yahshua did when they last saw Him in bodily form...only this
time, before the whole world. As the heavenly voices proclaim checkmate,
serving notice to the kings and kingdoms of the world that they now belong to
the God of the Bible and His Anointed One.
At that point, the survivors of the antichrist's holocaust, all 144,000 of
them, will be gathered to the place where the two witnesses' carcasses were
laid, just as Yahshua's few remaining disciples were sent to Jerusalem, where He
had been slain, after His resurrection. On eagles' wings, they will
be assembled on Mount Zion. A nation can, indeed, be raised in a
day, as Yahweh spoke through Isaiah.
Genesis 3:14-15
14 And the LORD God said to the serpent,
"Because you have done this,
Cursed are you more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly shall you go,
And dust shall you eat
All the days of your life;
15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her seed;
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise him on the heel. "

Genesis 4:1-15
4:1 Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave
birth to Cain, and she said, "I have gotten a manchild with the help of the
LORD." 2 And again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of
flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 So it came about in the course of
time that Cain brought an offering to the LORD of the fruit of the ground. 4 And
Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat
portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering; 5 but for Cain
and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his
countenance fell. 6 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has
your countenance fallen? 7 "If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted
up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is
for you, but you must master it." 8 And Cain told Abel his brother. And it came
about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother
and killed him.
9 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" And he said, "I do
not know. Am I my brother's keeper?" 10 And He said, "What have you done? The
voice of your brother's blood is crying to Me from the ground. 11 And now you
are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's
blood from your hand. 12 When you cultivate the ground, it shall no longer yield
its strength to you; you shall be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth." 13 And
Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is too great to bear! 14 "Behold, Thou
hast driven me this day from the face of the ground; and from Thy face I shall
be hidden, and I shall be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth, and it will
come about that whoever finds me will kill me." 15 So the LORD said to him,
"Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold." And
the LORD appointed a sign for Cain, lest anyone finding him should slay him.

Revelation 9:1-11
9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven which had fallen
to the earth; and the key of the bottomless pit was given to him. 2 And he
opened the bottomless pit; and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a
great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit. 3
And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given
them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And they were told that they
should not hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but
only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 And they were
not permitted to kill anyone, but to torment for five months; and their torment
was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings a man. 6 And in those days men
will seek death and will not find it; and they will long to die and death flees
from them. 7 And the appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for
battle; and on their heads, as it were, crowns like gold, and their faces were
like the faces of men. 8 And they had hair like the hair of women, and their
teeth were like the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates like
breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was like the sound of
chariots, of many horses rushing to battle. 10 And they have tails like
scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to hurt men for five
months. 11 They have as king over them, the angel of the abyss; his name in
Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name Apollyon.

Revelation 13
13:1 And he stood on the sand of the seashore.
And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads,
and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names. 2
And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a
bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power
and his throne and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had
been slain, and his fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth was amazed and
followed after the beast; 4 and they worshiped the dragon, because he gave his
authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the
beast, and who is able to wage war with him?" 5 And there was given to him a
mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies; and authority to act for
forty-two months was given to him. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemies
against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, those who dwell
in heaven. 7 And it was given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome
them; and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given
to him. 8 And all who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name
has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the
Lamb who has been slain. 9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 If anyone is
destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the sword,
with the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the
saints.
11 And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like
a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon. 12 And he exercises all the authority of the
first beast in his presence. And he makes the earth and those who dwell in it to
worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed. 13 And he performs great
signs, so that he even makes fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the
presence of men. 14 And he deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the
signs which it was given him to perform in the presence of the beast, telling
those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who had the wound of
the sword and has come to life. 15 And there was given to him to give breath to
the image of the beast, that the image of the beast might even speak and cause
as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 And he causes
all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and
the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand, or on their forehead, 17 and
he provides that no one should be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has
the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. 18 Here is
wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the
number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.
