Harlot and Her Children
by Phil Maxwell 5/2/02
Getting Israel out of Egypt was a whole lot easier than getting Egypt out of
them. Only by taking full responsibility for working out our own salvation
(albeit in fear and trembling) can we enter into the kingdom of heaven.
I have never been a part of the church system myself, but I've found quite a lot
who have come out of it over the years. Unfortunately, the number that are
willing to truly be accountable to Christ as their only Head is considerably
less.
The fundamental flaw of the church system isn't false doctrine or pagan
religious practices, its the imposition of false apostles and false christs into
the ranks of those seeking the kingdom of heaven. Those who assume the authority
to establish doctrinal codes and creeds beyond the very simple scriptural
mandates are false apostles. Those who assume places that are effectively
intermediate leaders between Christ and man are false christs. Unfortunately,
such spirits are thriving in the name of Christ both within and without the
ranks of the church system.
The harlot is a spiritual dominion that's borders cut through the hearts and
minds of people, not the organizational boundaries of the church system. One
must do a lot more than leave the building to get out of her.
As far as fellowship goes, we should receive who ever Christ receives and
reject those who oppose this. The church system does not do this, nor do most
who’ve come out of it. We are all individually accountable to Christ for how
we use the keys to the kingdom in our hands, even if we relegate that
responsibility to others. Any uncertainty must be measured with large doses of
grace in the meantime. Until the harvest, tares must be tolerated and even
watered along with the wheat at times for the sake of the wheat, which is
guaranteed by the full faith and security of the Lord to those who patiently
wait for HIM to sort it all out in a way that the churches could never do
(though they try) -- righteously.
