Day Zero

Between the books of Daniel and Revelation there are a number of specific future events predicted in association with precise time periods.  These range from 3 1/2 days that the two witnesses of Revelation's dead bodies will be publicly displayed to 490 years that Daniel 9 says would be given to the people of God to do His work in the latter days before the great tribulation befalls the world.  Other than the 490 year period and its 434 and 483 year subdivisions, the longest one of these is 2,300 days (6 years 3 months and 2 or 3 weeks) that Daniel 8 indicates as the duration of great distress upon the people of God.  Besides those, there are periods of 10, 1,260, 1,290, and 1,335 days, plus 42 months and 3 1/2 years -- all in the context of things that will occur after the beginning of the great tribulation. 

Out of all of these mysterious timelines, there is only one that marks the beginning of the cataclysmic final days of this age in advance, Daniel's 490 year countdown. All others refer directly or indirectly to that day's events or those that will follow, which is why it is appropriate to mark the day of destruction that will mark the end of that 490 year decree as "Day Zero".  That is the day that "the people of the prince who is to come [the antichrist]" will cause great destruction against, by interpretation, the United States of America.  It is the day that the ten conspirators of Revelation 17 will overthrow the power of the people of this nation through a multi-pronged nuclear attack against U.S. cities.  It is the day that the global political and economic balance will be suddenly disrupted, a day of unprecedented death and destruction, with much more to follow.  It will be the day that the calamities associated with the sixth seal of Revelation 6 will be unleashed on the world, the "beginning of travail" Yahshua mentioned in Matthew 24, the day Ezekiel 9 predicted would be marked by the use of six weapons of mass destruction coming from the north.

In other words, Day Zero will be the first day of life in a completely different world for every human being on the face of the earth...and Daniel 9 gives us a pretty good idea of when Day Zero will occur:  The deadline for God' people to do His work will be up on or near the 490th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, which will be recognized October 31, 2007.

Countdown to Disaster

Daniel 9:24-27

24 "Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place. 25 "So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress. 26 "Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined. 27 "And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate." 490 years (70 sevens)

• Begins with decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem with focus on spiritual tenets.
• Ends with great destruction wrought by “people of the prince who is to come”; i.e. the antichrist.
• Interim includes great movement towards physically gathering and rebuilding the “holy city” coupled with failure to restore spiritual integrity that provokes God’s wrath.
• Decree relates to Protestant Reformation which began approximately October 31, 1517 and for which the 490^th anniversary will be marked on October 31, 2007.
• Jerusalem refers to the chief “city” in the land(s) occupied by the people of God; i.e. the U.S.A.

483 years (69 sevens)

• Messiah’s return to the world after being virtually cutoff from the ranks of His people in the world for a generation (49 years).
• Like original birth of Christ, event will not necessarily be widely known until later.
• Occurs 483 years after above decree and 7 years before Day Zero, approximately October 31, 2000.

434 years (62 sevens)

• People of God found to have wholly abandoned their calling and election.
• Likely associated with a discreet “thief in the night” accounting by the Lord, like the preliminary accounting of Sodom and Gomorrah and others.
• Occurs 434 years after above decree, 49 years before return of Messiah to world, and 7 years before destruction of Day Zero, approximately October 31, 1951.   

Beyond Day Zero

• The antichrist, probably discreetly through his people for a time after the destruction of Day Zero, will offer assurances that basic rights will continue to be protected for the next seven years.
• The implication is that the temporary government setup in the aftermath of the attack (by the conspirators who perpetrated it) will promise elections and the restoration of the former constitutional democracy.
• Sometime before the seven years are up, however, they will break their promise and begin oppressing the people, especially those who expose their crimes and true agenda.

Prelude to Disaster

8:3 Then I lifted my gaze and looked, and behold, a ram which had two horns was standing in front of the canal. Now the two horns were long, but one was longer than the other, with the longer one coming up last. 4 I saw the ram butting westward, northward, and southward, and no other beasts could stand before him, nor was there anyone to rescue from his power; but he did as he pleased and magnified himself.

5 While I was observing, behold, a male goat was coming from the west over the surface of the whole earth without touching the ground; and the goat had a conspicuous horn between his eyes. 6 And he came up to the ram that had the two horns, which I had seen standing in front of the canal, and rushed at him in his mighty wrath. 7 And I saw him come beside the ram, and he was enraged at him; and he struck the ram and shattered his two horns, and the ram had no strength to withstand him. So he hurled him to the ground and trampled on him, and there was none to rescue the ram from his power. 8 Then the male goat magnified himself exceedingly. But as soon as he was mighty, the large horn was broken; and in its place there came up four conspicuous horns toward the four winds of heaven.

15 And it came about when I, Daniel, had seen the vision, that I sought to understand it; and behold, standing before me was one who looked like a man. 16 And I heard the voice of a man between the banks of Ulai, and he called out and said, "Gabriel, give this man an understanding of the vision." 17 So he came near to where I was standing, and when he came I was frightened and fell on my face; but he said to me, "Son of man, understand that the vision pertains to the time of the end." 18 Now while he was talking with me, I sank into a deep sleep with my face to the ground; but he touched me and made me stand upright. 19 And he said, "Behold, I am going to let you know what will occur at the final period of the indignation, for it pertains to the appointed time of the end. 20 "The ram which you saw with the two horns represents the kings of Media and Persia. 21 "And the shaggy goat represents the kingdom of Greece, and the large horn that is between his eyes is the first king. 22 "And the broken horn and the four horns that arose in its place represent four kingdoms which will arise from his nation, although not with his power.

War: U.S.A. vs. Afghanistan and Iraq

• In the years preceding the Day Zero attacks against the U.S.A. and following extensive aggressions by two Middle Eastern nations, the U.S. will launch a massive attack against them and depose their respective governments.  This was done in Afghanistan and Iraq under the current Bush administration.
• There would be no force in the world capable of stopping the mighty U.S. military, as was demonstrated when virtually the whole world opposed the U.S. war against Iraq.
• The attack will be launched by air and/or sea in “anger” as though hastily launched in a retaliation to aggressions, like the 9/11/2001 attacks against the U.S. by Islamic terrorist did with American public sentiment, which was the only political backing Bush had to launch the Iraq war.
• The war will generate arrogant boasting by the U.S. leader, as President George W. Bush has done many times in touting his supposed divine mandate and the aggressive policies he has perpetuated.
• The U.S. president who leads during these things will be the last to rule over the entire, undivided nation before the antichrist is given power some time after the federal government’s power is parsed four ways in the aftermath of the Day Zero catastrophe.  Coincidentally, Bush is the 42^nd  U.S. president, not the 43^rd as widely reported, and that is exactly how many kings ruled over Israel before it was annihilated by Nebuchadnezzar’s armies for very similar reasons.
• These actions and the generally aggressive portrayal of the U.S. here is indicative of the preliminary works of the symbolic red, black, and speckled horses of Revelation 6. 

Apparent End of U.S. Supremacy

• After Day Zero, ten highly placed political leaders who also bear significant international business clout will step forward as the ones who will assume the helm of the broken federal government during the restoration period.  They will undoubtedly invoke a pre-existing plan of action to justify themselves.  (It was revealed in recent years that Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, and others had been developing and maintaining such a “shadow government” plan for the last three or so decades.) 
• With the federal government effectively dismantled by the Day Zero destruction, they will move to establish four regional governments to administrate federal services that will likely be headed by  governors of large states within each.
• They will probably establish a seven-year goal for holding elections and re-constituting the federal government and will offer many assurances that basic civil rights will continue under this temporary governmental framework.
• The United States will seem to be finished as a great world power, its government being the symbolic head of the seven-headed beast that suffers a deadly wound that will ultimately be healed to the marvel of the world.

2,300 Days of Tribulation

9 And out of one of [the four horns] came forth a rather small horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Beautiful Land. 10 And it grew up to the host of heaven and caused some of the host and some of the stars to fall to the earth, and it trampled them down. 11 It even magnified itself to be equal with the Commander of the host; and it removed the regular sacrifice from Him, and the place of His sanctuary was thrown down. 12 And on account of transgression the host will be given over to the horn along with the regular sacrifice; and it will fling truth to the ground and perform its will and prosper. 13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to that particular one who was speaking, "How long will the vision about the regular sacrifice apply, while the transgression causes horror, so as to allow both the holy place and the host to be trampled?" 14 And he said to me, "For 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the holy place will be properly restored."

23 "And in the latter period of their rule, When the transgressors have run their course, A king will arise Insolent and skilled in intrigue. 24 "And his power will be mighty, but not by his own power, and he will destroy to an extraordinary degree And prosper and perform his will; He will destroy mighty men and the holy people. 25 "And through his shrewdness He will cause deceit to succeed by his influence; And he will magnify himself in his heart, and he will destroy many while they are at ease. He will even oppose the Prince of princes, But he will be broken without human agency. 26 "And the vision of the evenings and mornings Which has been told is true; But keep the vision secret, for it pertains to many days in the future."

• If the Day Zero attack is considered as the mark for the “removal of the daily sacrifice” and beginning of tribulation, which is reasonable, then there will 2,300 days from that point until the tribulation God’s people will endure will end.  If Day Zero occurs on or shortly after Reformation Day, 2007, then this would be sometime in early 2014.  (2,300 days is just shy of 76 months, or 6 years 3 months and 2 or 3 weeks.)  Of course, the beginning of this countdown could be marked by the denial of religious and other freedoms that will be ordered sometime before the seven year restoration period is complete, previous promises notwithstanding.
• The “proper restoration” of the “holy place” could refer to the first resurrection saints defeat of the rulers of the world and establishment of the Christ’s kingdom in the world, but I doubt it.  It is more likely that this refers to the outpouring of the Spirit that will come upon the 144,000 elect after the two witnesses are raised from the dead in open sight of the world.  Christ’s presence amongst them as He was with the apostles and two witnesses would seem to indicate both the end of their persecution and the restoration of the “holy place.”

October 31, 1517 – Martin Luther publishes a 95 point rebuttal to Roman Catholic doctrines and practices that becomes the spark that started the Protestant Reformation that spread across Europe in subsequent years.   The movement broke the monopoly held for over a millennia by the Roman Catholic Church, restored the Bible

September 11, 2001 – Islamic terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon fuel the political will of the American people to launch wars against and depose the governments of Afghanistan and Iraq.  Daniel 8 predicts these events as markers indicating the last of a line of U.S. presidents before the constitutionally mandated, democratically elected federal government is broken.   According to Daniel, it will be superseded by four separate regional authorities that will be established by ten highly placed politicians and businessmen who will assume power in the aftermath of a great catastrophe.
