Spiritual Abortion
Murdering the Hope of Glory, Christ
in You
by Phil Maxwell September 1999
As I was watching my sons play baseball earlier today and quietly praying in the
Spirit, an overwhelming sorrow came upon me, the term spiritual abortion came
to mind. I continued to pray, inquiring of the Lord what the meaning of this was, and
intermittently praying in the Spirit as the matter that follows started forming in my
understanding. As I was amongst many people, I had to hold back tears and slow down my
inquiry as this unfolded, determining that if this was of the Holy Spirit, it would remain
until I was able to investigate it more thoroughly. What follows is what has been revealed
to me to the extent that I have words to convey it, though I believe there is much more to
be said on these things.
Essentially, what is the spirit behind abortion? It is the choosing of the mothers
convenience, comfort, reputation, ambitions, health, or life over the life of the child
within her. Any way you break it down, it comes down to the mothers life over the
childs life, and woe to those who so choose. As in the past, so it is now that one
of the signs of apostasy coming to a full is the devouring of innocent children.
This is not really my point, though, but rather it is what the Spirit revealed to me as an
earthly manifestation of what is taking place in the Spiritual realm even now. The Church
is not yet the bride of Christ, but rather is the espoused bride of Christ; the marriage
has not yet been consummated. However, as with Mary, the mother of our Lord Yahshua, the
Church is with child, though she has not yet come together with her beloved. Though not
really pertinent at this point, the spiritual consummation of the wedding of Lamb of
Yahweh and His bride is what brings forth the child, which is the coming together as one
flesh between Yahshua and the Church. The point is that the Church is with child of the
Holy Ghost, bearing within herself a new and distinct life that is yet to be manifested.
As a mother, the nurture, care, and very life of the child in her womb is entirely
dependent upon her, though it is accomplished by the miracle of creation accomplished by
the all powerful word of Yahweh the Creator, not by her own works. She does, however, have
the ability to harm or destroy her own child.
This is where the term spiritual abortion comes in, as the essence of being a
follower of Yahshua is found in the choice between coveting our earthly lives or following
Him. To follow Him is to put the life held within us by the Holy Ghost as more precious
than our own, to refuse to do so is to endanger and even kill that unborn child. It is
spiritual abortion to choose ones own life over the life of Christ within them. Not
only is spiritual abortion, it is also an adulterous spirit and spiritual suicide.
The analogies and prophecies in the Scripture are overwhelming, although I've only begun
to investigate them. Consider Eve, who, though a partaker of Adams sin and the
penalty of death, was promised life through childbearing, though with considerable travail
and sorrow. Both were condemned, but life was assured through the life of Christ coming
forth from His bride, the Church.
Then look at Rachel, who lost her own life in birthing Josephs beloved brother,
Benjamin. As her life faded away, she named Him Benoni which means the son of
my sorrow, but afterwards, Jacob named him Benjamin, meaning the son of the
right hand. Beloved Rachel, the wife of Israel, it is further written, typifies the sorrow
over the death of her children, pointing not only to Herods massacre of the children
of Israel after Yahshuas birth, but also the attempted murder of the holy child
within the Church by Satans power over the flesh of its members. As much as there is
joy in heaven over the redemption of a soul, there is weeping over the loss of one.
While the virgin bride makes herself ready, knowing that her only hope of life eternal
with her beloved is through giving her life for the sake of her child (our hope is in the
resurrection), the harlot says, my husband will return for ME (I don't have to
follow His voice to where He is), I am no widow, I dont need anything beyond what I
have right here, right now.
The virgin says, "I will follow my Lord through death, for His life is now invested
completely within me, and the only way both He and I can live, is for me to die." The
virgin bride gives her life for Her beloveds child, knowing that only through the
child, they both shall live. His love surpasses even the power of death.
The virgin flees to the wilderness to protect the child within her, obeying the voice of
her beloved. The harlot declares herself queen over the kingdom of God, claiming to bear
His blessing and authority while destroying the true children of the kingdom, the child
that she carried in her own womb...before she chose her own life over her child's. She
justifies herself, saying that it wasn't really a child, but it was. Instead of being born
alive, her child is born dead, the son of death.
The virgin's child is born the son of sorrow as Rachels life fades away, but is
shortly thereafter transformed into the son of the right hand, the King of kings and Lord
of lords who will rule and reign over the nations, receiving the promise given to Abraham
many generations ago. The womans seed will indeed smite the serpent, and through Him
(her child) shall she live, though her desire must always be to her husband, and she must
serve him alone.
Indeed, as the Proverbs say, the children of the virtuous woman will rise up and call her
blessed, for she is a faithful, and her husband will praise her. Her value is far greater
than rubies because when her Lord speaks, she takes no thought of herself, but rather
says, be it unto me according to thy word.
